Hallo zroadster!

Beim stöbern in der Dension KnowledgeBase ist mir grade der Hinweis auf eine PC Software mit dem Namen "Indexing large USB contents" aufgefallen, was das 300er und 500er Gateway mit großen USB Sticks/Platten betrifft: klick

Problem:

I have large music collections on my portable USB device and takes a long time to index it. Is there any other way to generate that content quicker?

Solution:

For the fast browsing of content on a USB storage, the Gateway uses an index database stored on the USB drive (GW_DBA.BIN and GW_DBB.BIN files).
When you insert the storage for the first time, the Gateway starts to build the database. Until the Gateway finishes the indexing process you only have limited control of browsing and playback. This indexing takes a while, depending the storage size, and the number of music files on it. In general you can estimate ~ 1.0 GB/minute. Anmerkung meinerseits: das hängt zusätzlich noch mit der Geschwindigkeit des USB Gerätes zusammen, aber egal :w

Later on, when the index database has been created, the Gateway uses this for operations, in the background it checks the validity of the database (i.e. files may have changed since the last use).
So your changes will be effective only after the rescanning of the whole content, which takes as much time as the indexing.
Using a larger storage (>= 16 GB) this delay is inconvenient (not to mention, that during shorter trips the Gateway can not even finish the process...).
So Dension offers a Gateway Indexer PC software (GWI) for power users, which does the job instead of the Gateway.
The usage is simple. When you finished copying or deleting the content to the USB storage, just start the GWI, and select the drive letter of the storage. Start indexing, and wait, until it is ready.

----------------------------------
You can dowload the GWI from here. For installation please unzip the downloaded file, start gwi-1.0.0.0.exe and follow the instuctions on the install wizard.

Release notes:
---------------------
- In case of text capable Head Units a ‘!’ signs may be visible below the Artist Album or
Artist info. This means that the Gateway is reading and checking the database and the
USB device’s content. When this process ends the ‘!’ signs will disappear.
- Due to different character coding, some special characters (esp. foreign languages)
may appear differently on the portable device.
