Hi Max,

thanks - I´m doing fine - even though I sold my Z3 and bought a SLK. Nevertheless - you can see that I´m still present here on that page trying to help out everyone who is seeking for assistance.

The info you require is based on the technical feature to have the multifunctional push buttons on a steering wheel similar to what you can have in an E38 or E39. The report does not give all details that are required for the upgrade gimmick in a Z3 in detail.
I understand it like either exchanging the whole wheel or as a minimum upgrade only to add the push buttons for the car stereo control and cruise control:

The original texts reads:

Hi Teywan,

I built in the original E39 multi-functional-steering wheel (MFL) into my car.

But it is also possible to built in the push buttons and the 7 pin
grind ring out of an E38 or E39 only.
(Note/remark: You require the grind ring on the axis of the steering wheel for the adaption of the potentials leading to the different buttons).

The ident numbers are as follows:
61 31 2 489 878 push button cruise control
61 31 2 489 879 push button car stereo
61 10 2 493 715 connection cable
32 34 1 094 261 grind ring

It is only possible to assemble the equipment into a Z3 built in the production range between 9/98 up to 3/99 and it is a must that is is a 6 cylinders model (Remark: And that should be no problem for you because as fas as I know in the states you don´t have 4 cylinders models at all).
Please note that the date of production is relevant only !
The only car stereo that can be controled by help of the push buttons on the steering wheel is the BMW BUSINESS CD radio (that´s the one that has two separated liquid crystal displays) containing the K - bus interface. (Remark: I do not know if this stereo is available in the states)

A detailed wiring diagram will be available within the next few days.

Basically only 4 wires must be connected: termial 15 (ignition), 31 (ground), K-bus interface , criuse control
