Hi to everyone, Sorry if I write in english, I am still studying german language and I am not so good to write in german.
I write here cause in Italy there are a lot of cars with a lot of problems:strange ticking noise on 30i cars when engine is cold first(now it seems the problem is vanished), heat on feet compartment of driver side, windshield wipers that stop working during a storm, repaired and still faulty, noises on bad road from rear suspensions and from hardtop, leaking rear headlamps, faulty airbags ecu, alluminium trims that squeaks near klima console.....some engine shut off when you are at a traffic light, someone loses idle control....
how the situation in germany/other countries is?
in Italy reliability is not so good(I had a problem when engine was cold, bad terrible valvetrain noise when engine was started and let idling, but after 3-400 meteres of normal road the noise at idle is gone) but I can admit that my old bmw 3.3L automatic is still better , and so my ex 635 e24...

AW: problems with new Z4?a little reportage...

This looks set to become an exciting thread... :+ :X

Dear Francesco, I find it quite difficult to report on the overall situation, since the user's perception may be largely different on this point. Perhaps it could help to read through the threads in this forum and to form your own view on this topic.

My - very own - impression is, that the E89 faces, from the technical side, a number of weak points, that are more or less typical for today's (German) performance cars, in particular with regard to retractable hard-top cars, but is still better than many other cars available on the European market.

Best regards
Jan

Its surprising to hear that there are so much problems with the E89 in Italy, because all E89 - even for US - are build in a german plant. So normally there should be no differences in quality between the different countries.
Some of the problems you wrote about were already described in this forum- sometimes including a solution. Good luck für you with your Zettie :)

my bad german language doesn't allow me to undestrand really well every thread...otherwise I should have read everything.
I will search between the threads for the problem you have noticed/fixed in the best way I can....
on italian bmw forums there are not many z4 owners, but I can assure you that a lot of people is quite disappointed for one of the problems I listed before.Noone luckily had every problem at the same time......
It's still over the average and is one of the best bmw , about reliability(maybe cause hot climate in Italy, turbo and twin turbo systems fail quite often)....
thank you for your replies!
Best .....no....
Gruss und traugrig fur meine schlechte deutsche sprache....Is this good?

AW: problems with new Z4?a little reportage...

The turbo construction of the N54-enginge may indeed be not too reliable in the hot areas of Italy. For the rest, the problems you are reporting are more or less the same we have here in Germany. However, it still seems to me that these problems are mainly individual cases. Please take into account that the E89 (i) has a quite complicated construction of a retractable hardtop und (ii) includes a large number of technical and electronical features.

With other words: It is not a Fiat. :X

Just kiddin'. ;)

always with this common rule that italia= mafia, pizza spaghetti mandolino fiat, rust....it's partly true(said by an italian ....ahahahand I am not kidding!ahahah!) but now Fiats are better made(well, fiat was impossible to get worse, so this target was easy) and now we have more problem with soccer than fiat....ouch
noises from hardtop are not common, a simple silicone spray solved the problem in 99% of cars,I searched for the engine noises everywhere and it seems that italy is the only country that have noisier 30i(only the 30i) when cold, leakeing tail lights, some electonic problems ....
anyway I search again on the forum!
thank you!
Francesco

...problems: ... ,noises on bad road from rear suspensions and from hardtop, ...
Francesco

Hello Francesco

I think nearly all of your described problems have been discussed here on zrodster.com forums. If you keep this thread alive there will be more people translating their solutions of those specific problems that will help you and your friends in Italy.

Let me start to help you with the problem "noises on bad road from rear suspensions and from hardtop"

I have had this specific problem and some other users here at zroadster.com. There are two solutions we can "provide" you:

1) this one solved my roof noise problems:

Simply print this picture and show it your BMW dealer. It is an offical solution coming from BMW Munich and shows the mechanism of the roof's cantilever arm. I added some Infos in German and translated them to English for you. Hope this will help.

All discussed informations can be found in this THREAD (German, try Google to translate it for you)

2) this solution worked for the user "energy" who have had noise problems, too. He describes his solution something like this:

"Until a few weeks ago I had a very clearly audible noise when closed. Interestingly, this was only rumbling on the right side of the roof to hear the left side was extremely quiet, even when only the left side of road was uneven.

We, Ingo and I have elicited the problem and now fixed. The cause was a "shifted something" - you could call it felt with double-sided tape!

I shoot photos on occasion and post the exact location where the felt is glued ..."

Have a look at Energy's picture:

All discussed informations can be found in this THREAD (also in German)

I hope these informations will help you and your friends!

And I hope other user here at zroadster.com will follow and translate their solutions from German to English for the rest of the problems you described. :t

In fact I am strongly convinced that there are a number of better cars available to drive on the lake... especially as far as they are boats. :+

Don't take me serious, it just came over me... :X :wm

Best regards

I was working and I was late ......sorry....ahahah...

I just want to keep alive this thread cause I think It will be useful for every z4 owner.
this everyone can fix noises and problems in few minutes....
first of all I got and installed the felt as described in the picture(if you order the ipod interface kit this includes a ton of this useless felt ,so it was just at home), and I tested the car. my car was not emitting any noise from that zone but I noticed that something is changed anyway,I had a vibration that I thought it was the mobility kit(that vibratione started really the day I put that in the car.....but I was wrong!

then I Will try to show this picture at my dealer, at next oil refill or at first visit......

Thank you again!
Francesco

PS:if someone need the pdf of this ipod interface installation......private message!

Guys , with holiday spare time I put felt where you told me and dealer gave me special oil(it's like sewing machine oil) to solve every noise....
It works fine!
Thank you.....
if I could get an italian link where my friend posted some pictures of his fix.....
here we go......http://www.bmwpassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164174&page=5

other fixes for e89 noises....
they work!
I hope this helps!
Francesco

AW: problems with new Z4?a little reportage...

Hi Francesco! Thanks! This is an interesting way to solve the roof noise problems! I will keep this in mind in case my E89 will return to this problem!

all of you are wellcome, I hope to help as much as I can....I hope to help each other , like we did in this thread......
the noise of the engine is still there, even if it's not like 2-3k kms ago...but dealer told me that munich is working to fix that "comfort decrease " problem, as they stated it is....
now it lasts 2 minutes , also thanks to the warm climate, now...
regards,
Francesco

hello!
merry christmas , sorry as I am late!
My bmw now is quiet now, engine noise is gone....
other news since my last reply?
it seems in Italy that newer z4s hasn't engine noise nor roof noise.....production methods are better now....
regards,
Francesco
