Hallo nochmal,

ergänzend zur u. a. Frage schickt Tom jetzt noch die folgende mail; hat jemand zufällig die Bezeichnung der bei uns im Frontscheinwerfer eingesetzten Glühbirnen zur Hand? Danke.......

I think one difference between the US headlights & the EU headlights for the Z3 are.... the EU headlights project more light to the right side. I think the light pattern is different. I don't know if there is any difference in the bulb used. The headlight bulb used in the US version Z3 is Halogen 9005 High beam and Halogen 9006 Low Beam. What type replacement bulb is used for your headlights?

Hello Marc,


I have read that European headlights for the Z3 are far superior to the U.S. spec headlights. My BMW Dealer has no information about the Euro headlights. Do you have access to details and specifications on the Euro headlights for the Z3? The State of Georgia, where I live, has no vehicle inspection to detect if I am operating U.S. spec headlights or the brighter Euro headlights. If they are really superior to the U.S. headlights, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me on finding out the price of the Euro headlights... and perhaps, locating how I can purchase them for my Coupe.

Also die Seite von Osram bietet einige interessante Informationen. So wie es aussieht, sind amerikanische H7 Lampen mit 51 W (low beam) schwächer als die europäischen mit 55 W. Die high beam haben allerdings 60 W.
Hmm ...
Auch ist der Lampensockel anders. Die amerikanischen heißen P20d und die europäischen P26d. Die sehen auch sehr unterschiedlich aus. Also so einfach alte Lampe raus, neue rein wird wohl nicht gehen.

Das mit der Ausleuchtung der linken Seite ist übrigens meines Wissens keine Frage der Lampe, sondern der Streuscheibe.

so wie es ausschaut,
wurden in den USA nur HB3 und HB4 verbaut.
Der europäische Markt kam aber in den Genuß von H7.

Thanks for including the message board replies. They are interesting to see in German. Is it correct that the greeting "Moin" is used in Northern Germany? And "Gruss" is used in Southern Germany?

Thank you very much for your reply & information. Some of the information is incorrect. My American Z3 uses a 55W bulb - 9006 low beam & 9005 high beam. 9006 & 9005 are not H1, H4 or H7. I think 9006 & 9005 might be a version of H3. However, my fog light is H7, I believe. Other American E36 & E46 BMWs use H4 & H7 - according to the model. I think Germany & the US use the same bulbs in many cases. However, I was told that your German Z3 headlights have a different light pattern - shining more light to the right side. I think I will keep my US headlights on my Z3. Thank you for your help.
