Which Z4 version to buy (English thread)

Hello Z4 fellow forum members

I am posting from Greece and I am currenly in search for a Z4.

Car values have dropped significantly as taxes on the above 2.000cc cars are very heavy therefore many of the Greek Luxurious cars are exported to Germany.

I decided to make my dream come true and buy a Z (hopefully before my country goes bankrupt).
I prefer E85/6 the facelift models and I have test driven the 2.0 version which lacked power and so I got it out of the list.

Ideally I would like a 3.0si or 2.5si roadster but those version are relatively rare and I probably have to wait a lot for a good roadster, However the E86 coupes are relative cheaper here and i have found a couple of good examples. I still cannot decide between roadster or coupe

My questions are:
1. As some of the cars I am looking are Automatic, is there any negative reason not to buy an auto and prefer the manual version?

2. The price gab between 3.0si E85/6 and sdrive23i E89 currently is around 6.000-8.000 Euros. Do the extra euros worth the upgrade or the 204hp of sdrive23i is not sporty and fast enough?

Thank you in advance

Ouch, I think mainly you have to answer the questions by yourselves, as the answer depends on your preferences.:11smiley2

Question #1: Which type of a driver are you when driving a Z? cruising / normal /sporty / very fast?
For cruising as well as for fast driving the automatic gear might be better :w

Question #2: I am pretty sure, that asking here the recommendation is E85/E86. When you go down to the others :w the answer might be different.
Is the decision just because the money, should the decision be an economic optimum, or is it a question of having fun?
For the economy based decision: how long will you have the car, how many km per year?

Regards
Gerhard

The automatic gearbox for the 2.5si and 3.0si is a very sporty one - so there is no reason to insist on a manual gearbox. The Z4 Coupé is an agile, beautiful and somewhat special car and will beat the heavier E89 23i all day long (the E89 23i features the same engine as the 2.5si - albeit with less hp). But of course, the 23i is not a slow car at all!

My recommondations on options / features would be the following:

- "M" Seats (must have)
- "M" Steering Wheel
- Navi Professional for the E 85 / E86

Best regards, Jiro

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit confused whether I a need a coupe or roadster and how frequent will I drive top down.

A1: I It would be my one and only car, so driving in the city and commuting and leisure and everything,
I am not a "racer" I however, apart form everyday use I want to have fun with my car as well.

A2. The decision is a mix of both. Is what you get for what you pay.
If he (204hp) E89 really worth the extra 7-8k Euros as is newer model, better built more refined and supposing it will hold value well.
I will keep the car for minimum 3 years and i do 15.000km / year.

Thank you Jiro,

I have already bought form a friend M Seats and Wheel as those options are quite rare here.
Navi is even more hard to fine but I beleive I could manage without it.

I strongly beleive that the E86 is a unique style and its "looks" will last longer but I dont know if I should sacrifice the top-down experience.

I really love my Coupe, but in Greece - with probably 5.000 times more sunshine than in northern Germany - I would choose the roadster ;)
