Sorry, weiter auf English: this is NOT about my Z4 M40i, but about a new M850i (so with the N63 V8 engine). Here there are two (2) DMEs where the vMax parameter has to be changed with eSys. For the B58, e.g. in a M40i, there is only one DME, but probably most of the below will also apply for the Z4 M40i (with less than 10 engine running hours).
vMax can be set to a number up to 330, the HEX code has NOT to be changed (is not always FF as shown in the example pictures, it depends on car config, etc).
After carefully driving in the first 1K km, a vMax test drive (in Germany on the Autobahn)........the M850i accelerated easily to 250 km/h and did not stop at 253 km/h (like all new BMWs after 11/2020 seem to do, including my Z4) but the car went on tot 255........260.........but at 263 km/h hit the limiter
Did some research on other fora, and it seems that for BMWs BEFORE 11/2020, the vMax is set to 260 or 263 kmh by BMW, but AFTER 11/2020, BMW decreased this to 253 kmh on the dashboard (meaning 245 km/h gps?). Since this is a new car, you should hit the limiter at 253 kmh without a succesful eSys vMax coding, but it did "only" at 263 kmh. So was this eSys vMax coding "only" making it 10 km/h faster?
Happily I found some other codings, not directly related to vMax, but to the instrument panel (DKOMBI4) that might be related. Not only you have to change the speedometer to either the M Performance 330 kmh/200 mph dash or the Alpina dash (I did that already before the first vMax test drive to 263 kmh), but ALSO to change some other (Expert) instrument panel settings on the DKOMBI4 module:
- GESCHWINDIGKEIT_ANZ_Y = Alpina
- GESCHWINDIGKEIT_EFF_X = Alpina
After these 2 settings, the car went easily to 300 kmh in the next test drive
More than enough of course..........but a few questions still arise:
- Some fora suggested also to change the BC_V_KORREKTUR setting to NOT_AKTIV, to let the dashboard speed align with the speed shown in the HUD, but this had not the desired effect: the speed set by ACC is then different then the speed you see on the dash (very confusing).........but also the car then hits the limiter at 293 kmh (the scan tool used later, gave back a DME error: "1B0A40: Vehicle speed, plausibility: speed too high") => when changing this back to AKTIV, the car went 300 kmh without any issues (but maybe this is <293 kmh in gps speed?), any thoughts?
- Mainly used the Alpina layout for test driving, will other layouts make a difference or require different settings?
- The engine now has more than 10 running hours, so the DME's are "frozen", but will a future DME software update reset the higher vMax settings in the DME? (of course the instrument panel can still be configured easily, but the DME not anymore now)
Mein eSys coder macht selten dieser vMax coding, so er weiss die Antworten leider nicht.
Vielleicht hat Matthias oder ein andere expert hier die Antworten? Danke!
Wanted to share this also here, for the (new) Z4 owners who are considering doing the same.
