Z3 Ramair-Kanäle / Bremskühlkanäle

So two months have gone by and the only thing I have been doing is now essentially ready. Even after the latest photos I still further refined somethings the first customer commented in person.

But lets start from the beginning. If I start to write about progress, I will be still writing this at the morning so lets go with images.
I spent about a mounth just working on the scans alone and obviously since the end pieces and the wing were all crooked, and I am not into copying anyone else, all that was essentially thrown into trash.

Old fatty:

Bringing my own real and very well working wing into picture.

Two angles. One to match the very raked ACS ductail angle. And one 16,5° lower angle in real working, non stalling wing angle.
Ofcourse the whole wing exists in the boundary layer zone of the rear of the roof, so unlike my usual parts, this might be more visual aid in a sense.

And on next post telling where we are now.

So today I had structural bare carbon done and both legs and some test fits:

The front outer edge I have redesigned after this photo toninght for couple of hours based on customer’s comment not following the edge and rail line, so now it follows the edge all the way to the front.

Just for comparison a single fiberglass leg of ACS-replica: Over 4 times the weight of my sport leg and 2,5 times the weight of my ACS-style leg. And I have built them really strong.

So these are now able to order with options.
There are two versions at the moment,

1. structural carbon that is made entirely by me and is subject to visual minor flaws, that are meant to be smoothed and painted over by the receiving customer. That you can see here.

2. And second one is outsourced high gloss visual carbon. Meant to be left in carbon finnish on the wing.

Ends to be sanded and painted in either cases to car color also by customer.

Comes with all screws but I would imply using 2-sided high quality sticker also inbetween in roof and also on the window part in the ACS-look version.
I have left to do a separate mounting hole drilling leg that can be used to accurately mark and drill the holes. Some might opt out using screws in the mounting and just rely on very sticky tape, but I would insist on using screws and if not, then you are on your own risk.

I will try to get easier and cheaper to manufacturer version with inner carbon rods in the wing instead of carbon sandwitch.

I am open to suggestion of allowing 3D-print files of these and the front Z3M splitters at 250€/piece, but I would need quaranteed 10 buyers, to make any kind of worthwile for my 2 month long work on this.

The first wing seen here is up for grabs at 1000€ + shipping. It is not perfect on carbon but it is generally as good as I am capable. It needs to be sanded, body fillered and painted by customer to his spec.

I have made a very hard decision. This is literally all I have done this whole summer 2,5 months in a row every day. But as I unveil these new products here for the first time, I also decided to release the Z3M ”ACS” Front Splitters and the new Z3 / Z3M Coupe Adjustable Rear Wing into 3D-print file sales.

Only for personal use no reselling or redistribution of models or ready made products.
https://eedesign.fi/products/z3-z3m-...3d-print-files
https://eedesign.fi/products/z3m-fro...3d-print-files

Of course I am more than happy to sell also ready made products:
Z3 / Z3M Coupe Rear Wing
https://eedesign.fi/products/z3m-acs...-splitter-pair

Both are engineered to very high standard. And I will give full support to those who buy print files or ready made products.

There are two version of the wing: 3D-printed with internal aluminum structure, that is not heavier than one with single layer with carbon. Both the carbon and it’s epoxy or the aluminium rods add exactly 100grams to the wing weight, which is in either versions much lighter than the ACS replica wing is.
Aluminium reinforced version you only need to buy total of 3meters of 4mm round aluminium rods. (Usually sold in 1meter lenghts in hardware shops) and cut them into 12 pieces, each 25cm long. Then add them in joinery. Have long 4mm drill bit on hand if you need to open your printed holes a bit.
But if you are willing to dip your toes into carbon fiber, have gained knowledge and are confident to do it, then I can recommend that version. That uses 6x30mm wood plugs in joinery and ofcourse ASA-acetone slush to make it solid single piece first then you can do the carbon on top.

I have two wing end mount designs available, one that harks back to ACS rear wing shapes and another that is cut version. The ACS version is 115grams and the cut short sport version only 75grams, where as the American made replica glassfiber ACS wing leg was 316 grams, so only on the ends already 400 grams saved in my ”ACS inspired” version and almost half a kilo saved on my sports version.

Just sold first files to my long returning customer in Spain who has several Z3's.

The first wing is going to customer’s S54 Z3M Coupe that is blue and for that reason you will see them only without paint finnish on my own car, not attached permanently, just for show. Development is so ready that I can safely sell these globally now to first customers.

Great work!
I really appreciate you made the wing profile slim and recognized that the angle of the ACS type is more an air brake than an aerodynamic wing.
I‘m really interested in ordering one for my V10 Coupe, I just have to find out how to get it through the TÜV in Germany.
I don‘t want to risk any trouble with the German „race control“ on the streets.

Lets figure that out together. IMHO a wing should never be connected to such plastic part. But at least I made it as good as possible in strenght. I have not seen ever un mounted ACS wing, only replica, so I can not comment on that. But the American made replica I got, had M5 small head bolt through to glassfiber without proper threads. In my version I use best available German Ruthex M8X12,7mm heat set thread inserts in the ASA-plastic that have really high grip and there is proper mass of plastic also available designed from the beginning for this. And M8x16 ISO 7380-2 bolts that is largest that can fit both in the plastic part and taking in account that rear window glass is below it when installed in place.
And the fitting angle is because of sloping angle of the roof piece - angled in two directions. So when the wing is mounted inbetween the ends - it creates triangle shape that does not allow the screw to come loose as it physically can not allow itself to go wider if that makes any sense.

And the with that everyone should use best possible two sided foam tape (3M or such) in both leg to window part and leg to rear original roof spoiler part. Talking about the window, my leg has the exact shape of rear window glass, scanned with highest possible quality (100k€) scanner and all this work. IT should not be the load bearing part but being attached properly cant be a wrong thing to do. ACS-replica leg that I have had on loan has massive gap and nothing attaching it to the glass in installs I have seen. So if the real ACS is anything like, then mine should be tons of better.

Siiven%20jalka%20final.jpg

And yes the original is total air brake, and it even has the step in the middle, in that angle it is negative angle, basically sawtooth facing direcly the air. That being said AI computes that there is 80mm high boundary layer on top of the end of the roof. So yes it should be in laminary air but much slower moving than if it was 10 cm higher and freely moving air mass. Therefore for real game changer aero I suggest my earlier part that is cut to the bumper, it works in double the effiency because of ground effect height. If there is anything good to be said about this wing being in boundary layer, is that also the higher angle should work more like Kamm tail or duck tail - despite the gap, since most of the airflow goes over it and also this should lessen the drag compared to same wing in free air that would obviously stall massively in the steeper angle.

But as said, lets figure this out together, my personal number is +358505752167, and if you can contact me in Whatsapp, we can discuss how can be made working regarding the TUV. I might have some ideas too.

First carbon wing has been test fitted successfully in Finland to Finland’s only S54 engined Z3M Coupe of my friend. It is carbon but goes to be painted so it is sanded already.
IMG_3319.jpeg

After fitment I did one adjustment more to ensure more spacing between bolt head and rear window glass. But the first wing is perfectly useable as is but margins are tight like I knew they would be.

Special German market version has been developed. I leave what that means to your imagination.
The first aluminium reinforced german spec wing has been done ready to be shipped into Germany to very very special coupe, if you read only few posts up you know what car. ;) Here it is ready to be packed and shipped. Another new thing is that I provide 2 pair of legs. First pair mounts identically to wing but is used to accurately clamp down into the roof covering piece of trunk and then drilled with 9mm drill bit to get accurate holes for the bolts. That Is why I bumped prices 50€ up as this adds two more pieces.

Full carbon wrapped wing is extremely rigid. I sadly can not do the german spec in carbon wrapped for a marking reason that will come apparent for real customer.
Today assembled the first wing going to Germany:
IMG_3345.jpeg

In future I will replace aluminium rods inside the plastic wing into carbon rods to ensure stiffness and ensure also low weight to strenght.
I will actually order the carbon rods immediately after this post.

German version is available for purchase on the webshop now at: Z3 / Z3M Coupe Rear Wing
Sadly I can not ever offer this version as 3D-print files for good reasons. Only ready made ones.

Yes, this is two way egg slicer machine, you can break in one egg and it comes out as two or put two in and it comes in as one. Can be used as single cup holder, or dual if both are used so that it does not become unbalanced.

It is actually related next year to this snail:

As well as these binoculars:

I have done lots of exhaust mathematics and ended up with completely new type of exhaust muffler mechanisms, that are not just simple, broad and vague lowpass filters like all flow through sports resonators are.

So in the end I will no longer have even the back box of supersprint race. Here is attenuation comparison of:
BLUE: Current system: Supersprint Race + my broadband 1/4th wave resonator that I calculated whole last winter and it was built and it is working perfectly on lower rpm range just as wanted.
ORANGE: 1/4th wave resonator + dual acoustic metamaterial space-coiling stop-band anisotropy coaxial absorber + fluid dynamics optimized dual exponential horn venturi-collector.

Note this is attenuation, so gain will be inverse to this and especially in unrestricted harmonics over the high frequencies which I want when using top of the rpm range.

I can write more about these in more layman terms in future when they are installed. Goes to next spring as I still have to get this first printed part installed into new collector pipe and also do oil change and new spark plugs, then immediately to winter hibernation.

BTW. I do design tailor made 3D-printed aluminium, stainless or titanium parts as well as custom plastic parts. Prices are nowadays very affordable for serious buyer. So contact me if that is something you want.
