my experience in the installation of the Philips Ultinon Gen 2 could be useful
I installed the Philips ultinon gen 2 in my Z4, I replaced my "blue" halogen.
The installation was quite laborious, nothing impossible, but certainly not simple,
even if conceptually you have to follow these steps:
- Remove the heat sink by loosening the "small dowel screw" (I have not completely removed the screw) and slide it near the LED driver;
- Insert the lamp carefully, you will have to find the right angle because it remains long without the heatsink;
- once inserted, try to fit it in its seat to lock it;
- slide the heat sink over the cable and screw it back to the LED lamp (this is the part that took me the longest time because space is really limited);
- Insert the LED driver and connect the terminal.
for both lamps I also took about an hour and a half.
The result in my opinion is very good especially compared to the first halogen lamp,
the angel eyes look very good, but in the picture I can't take them well because they flicker a little on the cell phone camera,
but I assure you that under the midday sun they can be seen very well, while with the halogen the external circle is not illuminated
Now with the Philips the outer circle has a slightly yellowish color compared to the inner one, but really nothing to suggest that it is not worth the effort.
The insertion and possible removal (if needed) are the only things to seriously consider before purchasing them.
in my Z4 I didn't need to remove any errors from the lamps, the system accepted them once the old halogen lamps were replaced.
I have never used an OBD to modify anything in my car.
in this photo I compared the Philips (left) with the halogen "Blue",
under midday sun the ultinon is great, and the halogen seems turn off
