Picked up the car at Schmickler Performance last night around 16:30, went out for a test drive which initially started really well, but halfway through the test drive we ran out of gas. Only had to wait 15 minutes for help to arrive and we were off again. Then around 18:00 set of for Hockenheim, with the wife in " Hot Pursuit".
Was initially disappointed that they were only able to get an additional 14.1 PS and an additional 13.6 Nm out of the car, BUT given that this is a non-turbo gas car, it is actually impressive. The Max U/min was raised from 7000 to 7100, which gives, on paper, a Vmax of 260.8 (but this has not been verified), and may never be checked outside of the Dottinger Hohe
The suspension already had H&R springs installed and was quite stiff in the SPORT mode, and the car exhibited noticable understeer and well as the rear having problems staying in touch with the road surface [wheel hop] on rough patches, particularly when accelerating and turning at the same time. Marcus added the H&R Sway Bars and performed his suspension optimization at the same time.
Now for what can't be seen on the paper...
MOTOR - My wife drives a 2007 BMW 120d Limited M Sport Edition with the BMW Performance Power Kit, [145KW, 390 NM]. This car is quick and light. I always had to push the Zettie hard to keep up at normal speeds (she drives like Sabine) and I am down 80 Nm, Now I am able to keep up with no problems and don't have to push hard. In addition, and this is a big part for me, the engine is as smooth as a sewing machine, unbelievably smooth (I did think it was smooth before, but no comparison to now), it just hums, and then starts to sing all the way to 7100. Even better is from Ahrweiler to Worms (A61) driving 140-150 kph, and not using the Cruise Control, fuel consumption was 7.4 ltr/100km, and if you add in 240kph stint from Bad Durkheim to Speyer (unlimited section of A61 and no traffic) fuel usage rose to 8.4 ltr/100km, I think this is astounding. Did I mention how friggin SMOOTH the motor is ?
SUSPENSION - No single thing stands out, but compliance over rough parts of the road is much much better, even under power, and the control when turning under power is greatly improved and has added 15-20kph to the turns I know on the way home. Overall the feel of control is the same at 50kph as it is at 120 kph. the car inspires a lot of confidence, and pays you back for your trust in it.
So overall I am extremely happy with the total package, and feel it is well worth the money and I would do it again (except for running out of fuel).
